The local administration recovered illegally stored fuel oil and fined a businessman during a drive in Paikgachha on Tuesday. The operation, conducted on March 31, targeted a shop in the Kapilmuni area where drums of petrol and octane were being hoarded.
Acting on the orders of Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury, officials raided 'Khan Enterprise' on Kapilmuni College Road. During the drive, authorities seized several drums of fuel.
A mobile court fined the shop owner, Khan Delwar Hossain, 5,000 BDT for creating an artificial fuel shortage and endangering public safety by storing flammable materials without authorization. Following the seizure, the recovered fuel was distributed among the general public on the spot.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Fazle Rabbi stated that hoarding fuel to manipulate the market and violating safety protocols are serious offenses. He emphasized that the upazila administration will continue similar operations to protect consumer interests and public safety. Upazila Agriculture Officer Ekramul Hossain was also present during the drive.
