Authorities seized 7,400 liters of diesel and fined two individuals Tk 35,000 during anti-smuggling drives in Narail’s Kalia Upazila on Monday afternoon.
The operations, aimed at preventing illegal storage and fuel smuggling, took place at Baraipara Ferry Ghat and Kalbaria.
At approximately 5:00 PM, Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Jinnatul Islam led a drive at Baraipara Ferry Ghat. Officials seized 1,800 liters of diesel stored in nine barrels aboard a van and a tractor. The owner, Pintu Sheikh of Mauli village, was fined Tk 10,000 for failing to produce valid documentation.
An hour later, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Srabani Biswas conducted a second operation in the Kalbaria area, seizing 5,600 liters of diesel from a truck. The owner, Khairul Sheikh of Jogania village, was fined Tk 25,000 by the mobile court for similar licensing failures.
UNO Md. Jinnatul Islam stated the fuel had been transported from Khulna’s Dumuria and Harintana areas without legal permits. The seized diesel was placed in the custody of a local filling station to be sold to consumers at government-fixed rates, with the proceeds deposited into the state treasury.
