Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury stated on Monday that the government is ensuring full transparency in project implementation, leaving no room for corruption. He issued a stern warning that no concessions would be made for canal encroachers, regardless of their influence.
The Minister made these remarks while inaugurating a canal digging program in the Baman Sundar area of Mirsarai on Monday afternoon.
Addressing the current global context, the Minister noted that the government is moving forward with development despite a strained national economy, the Middle East conflict, and the ongoing energy crisis. He emphasized that this canal excavation is a strategic move to combat climate change and benefit marginalized communities.
Under the initiative of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), a three-kilometer stretch from Alirpol to Banatoli is being re-excavated. This project is expected to secure irrigation for approximately 15,000 hectares of farmland, directly supporting local farmers.
The ceremony was presided over by Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah. Other attendees included State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, and local officials and political representatives.
