Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced that the government has launched comprehensive rehabilitation efforts for flood victims in Chittagong where approximately 700,000 people have been affected by recent inundations.

Speaking at a relief distribution event at Amiriya High School in Saral Union, Bashkhali on Friday afternoon, the minister assured residents of uninterrupted state support. "Government assistance will continue until the rehabilitation of the flood-affected people is fully complete," he stated.

Immediate emergency relief is actively being deployed. According to the minister the authorities have already distributed dry food to 75,000 individuals and provided cooked meals and rice to another 80,000 in the hardest-hit regions.

Addressing the extensive infrastructural damage, particularly the destruction of regional communication networks in Bashkhali, the minister confirmed that directives have been issued for urgent road repairs. He noted that reconstruction work has already commenced in several critical areas.

During the event, Chowdhury also paid tribute to the late former State Minister Zafrul Islam Chowdhury, remembering his lifelong dedication to the welfare and development of the Bashkhali community.

The relief distribution program was attended by key local administrators and political leaders to coordinate the ongoing efforts. Notable attendees included Chittagong City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Chittagong-8 MP Ershad Ullah, Bashkhali MP Principal Zahirul Islam and Deputy Commissioner Md. Zahidul Islam Miah alongside senior police officials and local representatives.
