Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), predicts a historic downfall for traditional political heavyweights in the upcoming February 12 National Parliament Election.
Campaigning for the fourth day in the Panchagarh-1 constituency, Sarjis held mass contacts and yard meetings in the Amarkhana Union on Sunday. Addressing the media, he asserted that the era of "predetermined" outcomes for influential leaders is over.
"The concept of 'heavyweights' will not survive in this new Bangladesh," Sarjis stated. "The so-called big leaders of established parties will witness a landslide fall, InshaAllah. The spirit of the revolution has reached every home, and people are simply waiting for February 12 to vote against oppression, extortion, and the abuse of power."
He criticized politicians who have switched stances since the July Uprising, describing them as "chameleons" trying to pose as innocents after years of intimidation and legal harassment. "People recognize them well. Voters will listen to many words but will cast their ballots for justice."
Sarjis expressed confidence that the 11-party electoral alliance (which includes the NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami) would win and form the next government. However, he alleged that local leaders of certain parties are still using threats to influence voters.
"A worker from our alliance complained this morning of being threatened by local BNP activists," Sarjis claimed. "We want to be clear—those who try to seize power through intimidation will fall even harder than the previous regime. Let the people vote freely."
