Homeopathy doctor fined Tk 1 lakh for giving allopathic treatment in Gazipur

The upazila administration has fined a doctor Tk 1 lakh for violating licensing conditions by providing allopathic treatment at a homeopathic service center and for storing and selling expired medicines in Kaliganj, Gazipur.

The fine was imposed on Thursday afternoon following a mobile court operation conducted at Basair Bazar by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Zakia Sarwar Lima.

According to the administration, Uttam Kumar Dutta, who holds a homeopathic certificate, had been running a homeopathic service center named Seba Pharmacy for a long time while illegally prescribing allopathic medicines. The mobile court also found expired allopathic medicines stored and sold at the center.

Based on the evidence, the magistrate fined Uttam Kumar Dutta Tk 1 lakh under Section 53 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
