Chhatra Shibir has held a march and rally in Chattogram to protest the death of Inquilab Manch spokesperson and potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Sharif Osman Hadi.

Speakers at the rally said that despite the 'moral lapses' of many leaders of the July Movement, Inquilab Manch convener Sharif Osman bin Hadi, who was shot dead by an assailant, was 'steadfast and steadfast' in his policies. Shibir leaders demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers.

After Friday prayers, the procession started from the Jamiatul Falah Jame Mosque in Chattogram city towards Dewanhat and the Shibir leaders held a rally at the Dewanhat intersection.

At the rally, Chattogram City South Shibir President Maimunul Islam Mamun said that it was as if July itself was killed by shooting, not Osman Hadi. Osman Hadi's killers may seem like two people, but the murder was carried out by a large group of people.

Chattogram University President Muhammad Ali also spoke at the rally after the protest march, moderated by Mominul Haque, secretary of Chattogram City North Shibir.

Hadi had announced to run as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th parliamentary election. Last Friday, when he went to Bijoynagar area for a public meeting, he was shot by an assailant riding a motorcycle. The bullet hit Hadi in the head.

The seriously injured Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance on Monday afternoon. He died there on Thursday.
