A BMW sports or racing car and other vehicles have been imported through Chattogram Port under a declaration of used vehicle parts, according to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID).
The CIID disclosed the information in a press release on Wednesday (October 7).
According to the authorities, M/S Ayaz Auto International, an importer based in Halishahar, Chattogram, brought a consignment from Arab Japan Used Cars and Spare Parts Company in the United Arab Emirates after declaring it as “used vehicle parts.”
A physical inspection of the consignment found a BMW sports or racing car in completely knocked-down (CKD) condition, the front half of a BMW 740i and five Isuzu trucks that had been cut in half.
The BMW sports car is a two-seater S Drive 23i model with an engine capacity of around 2,500cc.
Inspectors also found the front half of a 2016 BMW 740i. The vehicle has an engine capacity of approximately 3,000cc.
Customs authorities said legal action is being taken against the importer and the clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent for allegedly violating the Customs Act 2023 and existing import policy.
Authorities are also investigating the remaining parts of the BMW vehicle.
