

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has destroyed a large quantity of illegal drugs worth an estimated Tk 3 crore in Ramgarh, Khagrachhari.
The drugs were formally destroyed on Wednesday (October 7) at the headquarters of the Ramgarh Battalion in the presence of Judicial Magistrate Md Majed Hossain. The seized substances were crushed with a roller and burned in accordance with legal procedures.
Brigadier General Sohel Ahmed, commander of the Chattogram Region, attended the destruction programme as the chief guest.
Colonel Md Mizanur Rahman, commander of the Guimara Sector, was present as a special guest, along with Ramgarh Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Ahsan Ul Islam, Khedachhara Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Shahinul Islam, acting commander of Jamini Para Battalion Major Md Moinul Alam, Ramgarh Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Shamim, Assistant Director of the District Department of Narcotics Control Abdul Hamid and Ramgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazir Alam.
According to BGB, the destroyed drugs included various brands of Indian liquor, cigarettes, yaba, ganja and other tobacco products that had been illegally smuggled into Bangladesh.
BGB said personnel from the Ramgarh, Khedachhara and Jamini Para battalions under the Guimara Sector seized the ownerless drugs during operations at different points along the border from February 2022 to August 31 this year.
The seized drugs had an estimated market value of around Tk 3 crore.
