25 CU Students Nominated for Prime Minister Gold Medal

Twenty-five meritorious students of the University of Chittagong (CU) have been nominated for the Prime Minister Gold Medal 2019, 2020 and 2021 in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.

The information was disclosed in a notice published by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to the notice, nine CU students have been nominated for the 2019 award. They are Zohair Furkan of the Department of Arabic; Mohammad Nur Ali of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences; Tasfika Khanam of the Department of Finance; Jannatul Ferdous of the Department of Economics; Umme Habiba of the Department of Law; Tahsin Shams Sadia of the Department of Soil Science; Mohammad Newaz Jamil of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Raiyan Ahmed of the Department of Oceanography; and Afsana Akter of the MBBS programme.

Eight students have been nominated for the 2020 award. They are Mohammad Abdul Halim of the Department of Arabic; Itamoni Chakma of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences; Shahrin Akter of the Department of Banking and Insurance; Didarul Islam of the Department of Economics; Mohaiminullah Sarker of the Department of Pharmacy; Fairoz Abida of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Mitu Ranjan Sarker of the Department of Fisheries; and Israt Parvin of the MBBS programme.

Another eight CU students have been nominated for the 2021 award. They are Ashrafun Nesa of the Department of Persian Language and Literature; Tahmidul Islam Akib of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Nusrat Jahan of the Department of Banking and Insurance; Mintu Barua of the Department of Economics; Tanika Islam of the Department of Law; Fahmida Rahman of the Department of Zoology; Md Mehedi Hasan of the Department of Oceanography; and Md Adibul Haque Nafis of the MBBS programme.

The Prime Minister Gold Medal is a prestigious award introduced by the UGC to encourage meritorious university students and recognise outstanding academic results. The UGC introduced the award in 2005.

The medal is awarded to the top-performing students who achieve the highest marks or CGPA, or secure first place, in various faculties at the undergraduate or postgraduate level at universities and educational institutions across the country.

A total of 469 students from across Bangladesh have been nominated for the Prime Minister Gold Medal 2019, 2020 and 2021.
