BOU Seeks Faster, More Accountable Field-Level Services

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) held a quarterly coordination meeting on Wednesday to improve field-level services, accelerate activities and resolve students’ problems more quickly.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan chaired the meeting at his conference room. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Md Sirajul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Registrar T.M. Ahmed Hossain, deans, directors and officials from regional centres attended.

The meeting discussed increasing the use of technology, strengthening inter-office coordination, simplifying certificate correction procedures, holding regular coordination meetings at sub-regional centres and providing administrative support during examinations.

Participants also proposed preparing academic calendars for all schools, introducing a staff transfer policy, arranging regular training, strengthening promotion of new programmes, reducing admission fees for third-gender and female students, and using technology to prevent examination malpractice.

“Within our limited manpower and financial resources, we will gradually resolve the problems on a priority basis,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

He said BOU is “not merely a certificate-producing factory” but an institution for earning degrees, stressing that ensuring quality education for students is the university’s foremost priority.

Professor Khan also said an e-attendance system would be introduced soon. He urged all concerned to work toward the successful completion of the university’s upcoming Sixth Convocation and University Day.
