Press Council Holds Training Workshop for Objective Journalism in Narail

A training workshop was held in Narail to enhance journalists’ professional skills in preventing misinformation and unethical journalism and ensuring objective news reporting.

The Bangladesh Press Council organised the workshop at the conference room of the Narail Circuit House on Wednesday (October 7) afternoon.

A total of 49 journalists from print and electronic media outlets in Narail district participated in the training.

The workshop covered various aspects of responsible journalism, including verifying and assessing information before publication, maintaining objectivity in news reports, preventing misinformation and unethical journalism, and following professional journalistic guidelines.

Narail Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Abdul Chalam chaired the programme, while Additional Superintendent of Police Nur-E-Alam Siddiqui attended as a special guest.

Dr Mohammad Abdul Chalam stressed the importance of verifying information and ensuring objectivity when publishing news. He said responsible journalism plays a vital role in delivering accurate information to society, protecting public interests and promoting good governance.

He urged journalists to perform their professional duties responsibly while adhering to journalistic standards.

Bangladesh Press Council Secretary (Joint Secretary) Md Abdus Sabur spoke as a resource person at the workshop. He emphasised adherence to professional journalistic guidelines, verification of information before publication and responsibility in news reporting.

He said verifying information and publishing reliable news is one of the primary responsibilities of journalists. He also stressed the need for journalists to remain more cautious and responsible in preventing misinformation and misleading information.

District Information Officer Md Rostam Ali delivered the welcome address.

The workshop also featured discussions on journalistic ethics, verifying information sources, maintaining neutrality in news reporting and fulfilling professional responsibilities. Participants exchanged views on existing challenges in journalism and various aspects of responsible news reporting.

Certificates were distributed among the participating journalists at the end of the workshop.
