

Dengue appears to have become more severe in October after claiming 148 lives in September, with eight more people dying from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in the latest 24 hours.
The death toll from dengue has reached 27 in the past three days, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) dengue bulletin issued on Wednesday (October 7).
According to DGHS data, 1,860 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours from 8am Tuesday. Dhaka division recorded the highest number of admissions, with 730 patients.
Among the other divisions, 376 patients were admitted in Khulna, 200 in Barishal, 216 in Chattogram, 110 in Mymensingh, 38 in Rangpur and 176 in Rajshahi.
Tuesday saw the highest single-day dengue death toll of the year, with 10 people dying from the disease. Nine others died from dengue the previous day. As a result, 44 people have died from dengue in the first six days of October alone.
So far this year, dengue has claimed 289 lives, while 92,216 patients have been hospitalised with the disease.
Of the total deaths, 148 were recorded in September. October has already accounted for 44 deaths in its first six days, while 43 people died in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.
