Sadullapur UNO Distributes Tree Saplings Among Students, Fines Four Businesses

Tree saplings were distributed among children at two primary schools in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha as part of a tree plantation programme aimed at maintaining environmental balance and promoting greener educational institutions.

The saplings were distributed on Tuesday, October 6, under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), as part of a nationwide initiative. Sadullapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rowjatun Jannat handed over saplings of various species to students of Naldanga Government Primary School No. 1 and Naldanga Government Primary School No. 2.

Alongside the distribution programme, the UNO inspected cleanliness activities aimed at preventing dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and raising public awareness about disease prevention.

Naldanga Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Gafur, Upazila Engineer Md Menaz and other local representatives were present during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, UNO Rowjatun Jannat said there was no alternative to tree plantation for protecting the environment and creating a healthy and beautiful living environment.

She urged students to properly care for and maintain the saplings after planting them.

“Bringing greenery to educational institutions will play a leading role in making students more environmentally conscious,” she said, adding that teachers, parents, elected representatives and other responsible citizens should also play an active role in implementing the programme.

She said collective efforts would be necessary to achieve the government’s target of planting 25 crore trees over five years.

After the sapling distribution programme, the UNO, acting as an executive magistrate, conducted a mobile court operation at four business establishments inside Naldanga Bazar.

The establishments were fined Tk 2,000 each, totaling Tk 8,000, for allegedly failing to maintain valid documents and display price lists.

Local residents said some other traders in the market hurriedly closed their shops and left the area, fearing fines or imprisonment during the mobile court operation.
