Teachers in Gangni, Meherpur, held a human chain on Saturday demanding a 20% house rent allowance and a 1,500-taka medical allowance, in line with the commitments made by the Education Adviser. The demonstration took place at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Gangni Press Club under the banner of the Gangni Education Family.
The event was moderated by Sayem Haque Poltu, General Secretary of the Bangladesh College Teachers’ Association (BCTA), Gangni Upazila Branch, and Mostafizur Rahman Bablu, Acting Headmaster of Gangni Pilot Secondary School. Speakers included Moklesur Rahman, Organizational Secretary of BCTA Gangni Upazila Branch; Zinarul Islam, Acting Principal of Terail Degree College; Amirul Islam, teacher at Gangni Women’s Degree College; and Jamal Hossain, President of the Secondary Teachers’ Association.
Other participants included Al Helal, General Secretary of the Meherpur District Teachers’ Association; Kamal Hossain, Headmaster of Kazipur Secondary School; Hasanuzzaman, Headmaster of Bhatpara Secondary School; Dilruba, Headmistress of Garadob Secondary School; and Rafiqul Islam Kobi, Headmaster of Devipur Secondary School.
The speakers demanded the immediate implementation of the government’s promised benefits. They also warned of taking larger programs if the demands were not met. Additionally, they urged all teachers to participate in the teacher assembly scheduled to be held in Dhaka on Sunday.
