The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has clarified its stance on Shakib Al Hasan's potential return to the national side. While the door remains open for the veteran all-rounder, his comeback now hinges on a specific condition regarding his match fitness and long-term commitment.
Shakib has been absent from international cricket since 2024, largely due to ongoing legal and political complications. During this hiatus, his participation in high-level franchise leagues has also dwindled; he was overlooked for the current PSL season, and his IPL prospects have long since faded. Currently, Shakib is maintaining his rhythm in minor leagues and lower-tier competitions.
Chief Selector Habibul Bashar confirmed he has initiated contact with the former captain. "I spoke to him to gauge his readiness," Bashar noted. "Where he is currently playing, there isn't consistent high-level cricket or elite training facilities. While he might be working on his fitness, international cricket demands a different level of preparation."
Bashar emphasized that the BCB is not interested in a short-term fix. The board has set a clear prerequisite Shakib must demonstrate he is physically and mentally prepared for the rigors of the international game.
"International cricket is demanding. If Shakib is fully ready and commits to playing for a sustained period, we will definitely consider his selection," the Chief Selector added.
