National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, MP, has called for the immediate removal and arrest of President Sahabuddin Chuppu, accusing him of violating his oath and remaining silent during the July uprising.
Speaking as the chief guest at an NCP divisional Iftar Mahfil at the Mymensingh Circuit House ground on Friday evening, Nahid Islam alleged that the President is a "friend of fascists" and faces serious allegations of financial corruption.
"We demand the President's removal through impeachment and the election of a new head of state. He must be brought under arrest for his actions," Nahid stated.
Regarding the NCP's participation in Parliament, Nahid explained that despite "election engineering" and rigging, the party joined the House to honor the people's mandate and push for constitutional reforms, including the establishment of an Upper House.
However, he expressed disappointment over the President being allowed to address the first session. "Allowing a friend of fascism to speak was a betrayal of the July aspirations. We requested the Speaker for an opportunity to respond to the President's speech, but when denied, we walked out in protest," he added.
NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, speaking as a special guest, criticized the lack of development and discipline in Mymensingh. He highlighted rampant extortion in sand mining and transport sectors, alongside severe traffic congestion in the divisional city.
"Mymensingh lacks organization. We want to see those who truly serve the people transform this into the country's most beautiful divisional city," Patwary said.
He also requested prayers for ailing BNP leader Mirza Abbas, who is currently hospitalized and awaiting surgery. "We pray for his quick recovery so he can continue to serve the people and help implement the necessary reforms for Bangladesh," Patwary noted.
The event was chaired by Mijaz Mehrab Talukder and attended by NCP leaders including Dr. Atiq Mojahid MP, Tanha Shanta, and Khan Talat Mahmud Rafi, among others.
