Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has announced to accept the election results and work as a responsible opposition party.

He said, Democratic politics is a long journey. Our path is now clear - to gain the trust of the people, hold power accountable and prepare for the future responsibly.

He made this announcement through a post on his verified Facebook page at 1:44 am on Friday (February 13).

The Jamaat Amir said, "From the beginning, we were committed to a stable and effective democratic system. We are still steadfast in that commitment. We recognize the overall results and respect the rule of law."

In the Facebook post, he wrote, "I express my deep respect and gratitude to the countless volunteers and supporters who have worked tirelessly in the past months. Many of you have dedicated your time, energy and faith. Many have been subjected to intimidation and harassment while exercising your democratic rights. Your courage has strengthened our democracy."

Shafiqur Rahman wrote to the leaders and activists – I know that many of you are saddened and deeply disappointed today. It is natural. When you pour your heart behind an ideal, its results touch you deeply. But I want to make one thing clear – your efforts have not been in vain. With 77 seats, we have almost quadrupled our presence in parliament and have become one of the strongest opposition blocs in modern Bangladeshi politics.

The Jamaat Amir said, history reminds us that the fate of politics changes. In 2008, BNP came down to just 30 seats, from where they formed the government in 2026 after a long journey of 18 years. Democratic politics is a long journey. Our path is now clear – to gain the trust of the people, to hold power accountable and to prepare for the future responsibly.

He wrote, our movement was never just for an election. It was to strengthen democratic culture, protect the rights of citizens and build a just and accountable state. We will fulfill our duties as a principled, responsible and peaceful opposition party; at the same time, we will make a constructive contribution to national progress by ensuring the accountability of the government.

He also said that there is no place for violence, intimidation and revenge politics in the heart of a nation that has just exercised its democratic rights. We want to make it clear that the July Revolution is still alive. The July Charter was absolutely clear, and it is not a dictatorship; neither through state power, nor under the shadow of any political party. The people of this country have once stood up against injustice, and will not return to the darkness of fear again.

We strongly urge the law enforcement agencies to immediately conduct an impartial and fair investigation into these incidents and bring those responsible to justice. Only swift and visible law enforcement can prevent the situation from deteriorating and ensure that no citizen is forced to seek security through alternative means. Every incident must be properly documented and recorded.

We call on our elected MPs, candidates and local leaders to immediately visit the affected families, stand by them, express solidarity and collect evidence. Collect all the information and evidence, including photos and videos, and submit them formally to the law enforcement agencies and share them with the media, hold press conferences if necessary, so that the truth is presented transparently to the nation.

He said, our message to the incoming government is also clear - the mandate of the people is not a license; it is a conditional deposit. The main condition of this deposit is to maintain law and order, ensure equal protection for all and provide security to every citizen regardless of political identity. The first test of good governance begins with establishing discipline among one's own party and workers.

We are committed to peaceful and responsible politics. However, no one should consider this commitment of ours as weakness. The July Revolution lives on in the hearts of the people. The politics of fear, repression or terrorism will never be allowed to return to this country, not from anyone.

The Jamaat Ameer further wrote, "Our commitment to principled and peaceful politics will remain steadfast."
