Campaigning for the 13th National Parliament election has formally begun in Chattogram city, with candidates launching mass contact and street meetings across four constituencies.
The first day of official campaigning started on January 22, following the allocation of electoral symbols. The move has drawn visible public interest and created an election atmosphere across the city.
Candidates and their supporters are holding rallies, road shows, and door-to-door campaigns in major roads, alleys, markets, and mosque premises. The presence of party activists and local residents has added a festive tone to the campaign.
However, concerns have also emerged over security. An allegation was raised that a brick was thrown at the car of Islamic Front candidate Muhammad Wahed Murad in the Chattogram-9 (Kotwali–Bakaliya) constituency. He said the incident occurred on Siraj-ud-Daula Road, damaging the front glass of his vehicle. Police later visited the spot after being informed.
In Chattogram-11 (Bandar–Patenga), BNP standing committee member and party heavyweight Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury began his campaign with mass contact in the Kadamtali area. He also visited the graves of his parents before starting campaign activities. His son, Israfil Khasru, conducted door-to-door outreach on his behalf. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Mohammad Shafiul Alam also campaigned in the constituency with supporters backing the scale symbol.
In Chattogram-10, BNP candidate Sayeed Al Noman launched his campaign from the Khulshi area, beginning with a visit to the Garibullah Shah Mazar. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Muhammad Shamsuzzaman Helali has also been campaigning since the first day.
BNP candidate Mohammad Abu Sufian inaugurated his campaign for Chattogram-9 from Kazir Deuri, with senior party leaders in attendance. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Dr AKM Fazlul Haque formally launched his campaign in the Andarkilla area, joined by central and metropolitan leaders.
In Chattogram-8 (Chandgaon–Boalkhali), BNP candidate Alhaj Ershad Ullah began his campaign by visiting a shrine and later sought votes through mass contact and street meetings. Candidates from other parties, including NCP’s Jobairul Hasan Arif and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Abu Naser, have also started campaigning.
Candidates from the Jatiya Party and several other parties were also seen campaigning in different parts of the city from the first day. According to the election schedule, campaigning will continue until 7:30am on February 10.
