Chhatra Dal leader Moshad Mehedi Shanto was ambushed in Mollarhat of Nalchiti upazila of Jhalakathi.
On December 9, miscreants attacked him by openly blocking his motorcycle on his way home at around 9:30 pm.
According to local sources, Shanto was returning home on a motorcycle. At that time, some miscreants wearing helmets and mufflers attacked him in the darkness of the night. He said that no one could be recognized as their faces were covered. Hearing his screams, the miscreants ran away when the people around him came forward. Later, the locals rescued him and took him home. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Nalchiti Upazila Health Complex that night, where he was referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital by the emergency department doctor Dr. Shankar Hawlader for advanced treatment.
Shanto is the executive member of the Nalchiti Upazila Chhatra Dal convening committee and the son of Mollarhat Union BNP president and former chairman Abdus Salam Hawlader.
When asked about this, Upazila Chhatra Dal member secretary Md. Sujan Khan said, “Some terrorists wearing helmets attacked our fellow soldier in the dark of night. We believe that the attack was carried out by the workers of the secret organization Jamaat-Shibir in the wake of the chase and counter-chase of some Awami League members with the local BNP in the Mollarhat area a few days ago. Their secret politics is destabilizing the political environment in the area. We urge them to abandon secret politics and play politics openly in front of the people. Our fellow soldier is currently admitted to the Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. We will take legal action in this regard when he recovers.
Regarding the attack, his father Abdus Salam Howlader said, “Two days ago, tension arose in the area over the putting up of posters. In that incident, Jamaat claimed that the Awami League and Jubo League leaders and activists who put up the posters were members of the Neo Jamaat. I think that the attack was planned to target me in the wake of that incident. "They attacked my son instead of me."
Colleagues and local BNP leaders and activists said that this was a planned attack and is suspected to be the work of a secret organization like the "Helmet Bahini."
The incident has created a sensation in the area. Local leaders and activists have demanded that law enforcement agencies identify and arrest the attackers.
