Railway Ministry Secretary Fahimul Islam has said there is no risk of major schedule disruption in train operations during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha travel period.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting Kamalapur Railway Station on Saturday morning.
The secretary said different government agencies are working together to ensure a smooth and comfortable Eid journey for passengers.
“We are working hard in coordination with all relevant departments. We hope this year’s Eid travel will be comfortable,” he said.
Fahimul Islam also noted that the Road Transport, Railways and Shipping ministries are under one minister, which has strengthened coordination during the Eid travel season.
To prevent dangerous roof-top travel, especially on trains heading to northern districts, railway authorities have taken strict measures. He said passengers traveling on train roofs put their lives at risk.
The Railway Security Force (RNSF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and mobile courts have been deployed at major stations. Magistrates will also remain on duty to stop passengers from climbing onto train roofs.
The Railway Secretary said three-tier security measures have been introduced to stop ticketless passengers from entering stations. According to him, unauthorized passengers often create overcrowding and disorder.
He added that 25 percent standing tickets will remain available due to high passenger demand during Eid. Demand for train travel during the holiday season remains higher than the railway system’s capacity.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Railway Security Force, GRP, Metropolitan Police and APBN, are jointly working to maintain security at stations and on trains. Surveillance has been increased at key locations, including Kamalapur Railway Station, to prevent theft, pickpocketing and public disorder.
Passengers can seek assistance or file complaints through the railway hotline 131, the secretary added.
