


A housewife named Shimu Begum (40) died under mysterious circumstances in Dhaperhat Union of Sadullapur Upazila in Gaibandha on Friday afternoon (May 22).
The incident took place in Haripara area of Palanpara village. Police later recovered Shimu Begum’s body from the house with a scarf wrapped around her neck. The incident has sparked speculation and concern among local residents.
Shimu Begum was the daughter of Khadem Member of Sultanpur Barai area in Palashbari Upazila and the second wife of Anarul Islam of Hasanpara village. Her family alleges that she was killed in a planned manner.
According to police and local sources, Shimu Begum and her husband had jointly purchased two decimals of land a few months ago and were living there. The couple had reportedly been in conflict for a long time over ownership of the property.
Family members of the deceased claimed that a heated argument took place between the couple on the day of the incident. They also alleged that Anarul Islam physically assaulted Shimu Begum before her death.
Locals have expressed differing opinions about the incident. Some believe she may have died due to torture related to the dispute, while others suspect suicide linked to marital conflict. However, the exact cause of death remains unclear.
In a tearful statement, the victim’s mother said, “My daughter was killed in a planned way. She had dreams for a new life and land. She would not take her own life.”
After receiving the information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
Police said several injury marks were found on the body. They added that the actual cause of death can only be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report.
Dhaperhat Police Investigation Center in-charge Matiur Rahman and investigation officer SI Supad Halder confirmed the incident. Police said a case has been filed and further investigation is ongoing.
