Germania-Trust Consortium (GTC), the contractor managing the Madhyapara stone mine in Dinajpur, has distributed Eid gifts and cash to the families of over 100 former and distressed mine workers.
The distribution took place at the GTC Charity Home, located near the mine, at 11:30 am on Saturday. GTC Deputy General Manager Zahid Hossain formally handed over the items to the families.
The company stated that providing food, Eid gifts, and cash is part of its annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. GTC—a joint venture between Germania Corporation Limited and a Belarusian company—manages the mine’s production and maintenance. Beyond aiding former workers, the organization regularly supports local mosques, madrasas, and orphanages.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed gratitude for the ongoing support. Rokon, whose late father worked at the mine, noted that GTC provided him with a job and helped finance his sister's wedding after his family faced severe financial hardship. The company has continued to provide them with food and gifts during Ramadan and both Eids.
Similarly, Rokhsana Begum, the widow of a former worker, shared that GTC stepped in when she was left struggling to support her three children. The company now provides a monthly educational stipend for her children, alongside regular holiday assistance.
According to GTC sources, the charity home currently provides monthly stipends to 52 higher-education students from the families of active mine workers. Additionally, the company offers free health consultation services to residents of the mining area five days a week.
