Police arrested Zakaria Ahmed Swadhin, a local leader of the Public Rights Council (Gono Odhikar Parishad), during a raid in Sunamganj’s Shantiganj upazila on Saturday morning.

Swadhin, son of Abdul Aziz from Amdabaj village, serves as the joint general secretary of the party’s Sunamganj district branch and general secretary of its Shantiganj upazila unit.

Acting on a secret tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Nuruzzaman and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ibrahim Al Sumon apprehended Swadhin at Shantiganj Bazar.

According to Aliullah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shantiganj Police Station, Swadhin is the prime accused in a money embezzlement and fraud case filed at Chawkbazar Police Station in Dhaka.

"He had been absconding for a long time to evade arrest. Following his capture today, he was produced before a learned court," OC Aliullah confirmed.
