All scheduled banks across Bangladesh are open today, Saturday, as part of revised arrangements ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
According to Bangladesh Bank, banks will remain open on Saturday (May 23) and Sunday (May 24) to help manage financial activities during the extended seven-day Eid break. Customers can carry out regular banking transactions from 10am to 3pm, while bank offices will remain open until 5pm for related official work.
The directive was issued on May 18 by the Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department (SDAD) of Bangladesh Bank under Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991, following a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration.
Before Eid, limited banking services will also continue in key industrial areas to support salary and allowance payments for ready-made garment workers and to maintain import-export operations.
Bank branches related to the garment sector in Dhaka Metropolitan City, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chattogram will remain open on May 25 and 26. These branches will operate from 10am to 3pm, while customer transactions will be available from 10am to 1pm.
In addition, bank branches, sub-branches and booths located in seaports, land ports and airport areas will remain open round the clock throughout the week to support trade activities. Bangladesh Bank also instructed banks to continue limited import-export banking services during the Eid holidays, except on Eid day.
The central bank said officers and employees working during the holidays will receive additional allowances according to existing rules.
