Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has donated Tk 1.63 crore 50 thousand for sanitation workers of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).

The donation cheque was handed over to CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain on Friday evening at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

According to officials, the financial assistance will be distributed among 3,270 sanitation workers of the city corporation. Each worker will receive Tk 5,000 ahead of Eid.

During the programme, donation cheques were also handed over to mayors and administrators of other city corporations.

Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain thanked the Prime Minister for the support and said sanitation workers play a vital role in keeping the city clean through their continuous efforts.

He said the financial assistance would encourage the workers and help improve their welfare. The mayor also noted that residential buildings are being constructed for sanitation workers, which he said would contribute to making Chittagong a cleaner city.

Earlier this year, the Prime Minister provided similar financial support to sanitation workers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, city corporation administrators and senior government officials attended the event.
