Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed at fuel depots across the country to prevent hoarding, maintain discipline in distribution, and ensure uninterrupted supply amid growing concerns over global price hikes.
The deployment follows directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs after reports of attempts to illegally stockpile fuel surfaced. According to BGB headquarters, the operation is being carried out under a coordinated and structured plan to enhance depot security and oversight.
Since the morning of March 25, BGB personnel have been stationed at 19 fuel depots across nine districts. These include one depot in Dhaka; two in Kurigram; three each in Rangpur and Rajshahi; two in Sylhet; three each in Moulvibazar and Cumilla; and one each in Brahmanbaria and Sunamganj.
To support operations, BGB members are working from temporary base camps set up in secure locations, particularly in areas far from their regular unit headquarters. Their responsibilities include regular monitoring of depot activities, enforcing administrative and security measures, and strengthening intelligence surveillance.
The forces are actively working to prevent illegal hoarding and unauthorized fuel sales, while remaining prepared to respond swiftly to any attempts at sabotage. In parallel, border patrols have been intensified to curb fuel smuggling.
Additional measures include increased river patrols, installation of checkpoints, and regular inspections of trucks and other vehicles involved in import and export activities at border points.
