Chittagong District Superintendent of Police (SP) Masud Alam has said that Jungle Salimpur will no longer be allowed to function as a “state within a state,” announcing plans for a permanent police presence in the area.
Speaking at a meeting with journalists at the Chittagong Police Superintendent’s Office on Sunday (May 17), SP Masud said coordinated operations by the police, army, and intelligence agencies have already improved the situation in the area.
“Before taking charge, I heard many stories about Jungle Salimpur, including incidents where law enforcement personnel were killed. The situation has changed significantly due to joint force operations and recent initiatives,” he said.
He added that temporary police camps have already been set up at two schools, while work is underway to build permanent infrastructure.
According to the SP, the government is also considering establishing a police training center and police academy in the area to strengthen law enforcement and improve infrastructure.
Masud Alam said police will continue working closely with the media to maintain public trust and ensure quick information sharing, especially in the age of social media.
Highlighting concerns over drug trafficking, he said Chittagong remains a key transit route for yaba entering the country through the Cox’s Bazar-Myanmar border. He added that anti-drug operations would be intensified further.
The SP also announced heightened security measures ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, noting that around 250 cattle markets operate across Chittagong district. Police support will be available for traders carrying large sums of money, while district and highway police will jointly work to prevent robbery and snatching on highways.
During the meeting, the SP presented plans related to law and order, crime prevention, anti-drug and anti-terrorism operations, people-friendly policing, and technology-based public services.
