Police have arrested David Emon the chief associate of fugitive top terror Sajjad Hossain from Jessore as he attempted to cross the border into India. Disguised with an altered hair and beard style Emon was apprehended following prolonged intelligence surveillance.

Chittagong District Police Superintendent Md. Masud Alam confirmed the arrest during a press conference on Thursday. "Emon essentially leads the Sajjad gang within Bangladesh while Sajjad remains abroad," SP Alam stated adding that another key operative Raihan is currently under close police watch.

According to police records Emon faces 13 criminal cases, including seven for murder, alongside charges of extortion and terrorism. A fresh case under the Arms Act has been filed at Fatikchhari Police Station, and police plan to seek remand. Emon was previously arrested in January 2025 in Cox’s Bazar but secured bail within 22 days.

Addressing the broader law and order situation SP Alam emphasized a strict zero-tolerance policy. "It does not matter to us who belongs to which group. If someone is a criminal, we will take legal action" he said. He noted that while no direct political patronage has been identified criminals likely exploited the temporary administrative vacuum following the August 5 political transition last year.

The SP also highlighted ongoing targeted security operations in high-risk zones like Raozan and Jungle Salimpur to restore stability.
