Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced on Monday that the government has issued orders to urgently recruit 2,701 police constables. Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting with law enforcement officials, the minister emphasized that the appointments would be processed swiftly.
“This government is committed to transforming the police into a true friend of the people,” Ahmed stated. He issued a stern warning against illegal interference in police operations, stressing that the force must function independently.
Addressing concerns over legal harassment following the fall of the Awami League government, the minister acknowledged reports of "case-trading" and the targeting of prominent businessmen. "We are investigating these instances to ensure no innocent person is harassed through meritless or retaliatory cases," he added.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Home Affairs will begin a comprehensive verification of firearm licenses issued during the previous administration. Ahmed noted that licenses granted through irregularities or outside of proper legal frameworks would be canceled immediately upon review.
