India and Bangladesh can unlock new opportunities for shared growth by turning their geographical proximity into practical cooperation, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has said.

Speaking at India’s Republic Day reception in Dhaka on Saturday, Verma highlighted the depth of bilateral relations and the benefits of closer regional collaboration.

“As forward-looking societies, when we work together, we can transform our geographical proximity into new opportunities for each other and for our region,” he said.

The high commissioner cited several examples of successful cooperation, noting that joint initiatives have delivered tangible benefits to people and businesses in both countries.

“These successes encourage us to pursue more forward-looking and future-ready partnerships,” he added.

Verma said the relationship between India and Bangladesh is built on trust, innovation, and mutual benefit. He described the partnership as one rooted in shared interests and sustained by sensitivity to each other’s priorities.

He also highlighted the potential of both countries as fast-growing economies supported by young, skilled, and innovative populations.

“India and Bangladesh can act as catalysts for each other’s sustainable growth and as anchors for stronger regional integration,” he said.

Verma outlined several priority areas for joint development, Building regional value chains and shared digital ecosystems. Developing cross-border energy connectivity and energy corridors. Ensuring clean, affordable, and secure energy for the region. Addressing environmental sustainability and climate change challenges affecting shared ecosystems.

Reflecting on the long-standing partnership, Verma said India remains committed to supporting a democratic, stable, peaceful, and inclusive Bangladesh.

“As we celebrate India’s Republic Day, we reaffirm the value of our partnership with Bangladesh and wish its people peace, prosperity, and continued progress,” he said.
