Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed held a courtesy meeting with Singapore’s outgoing Charge d’Affaires to Bangladesh Mitchell Lee on Sunday morning, with discussions focusing on bilateral relations, border security, technology transfer and economic cooperation.
The meeting was held at the Home Minister’s office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on September 27.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Singapore, capacity building for the Bangladesh Police, modernisation of border security at airports and land ports, technology transfer, economic and trade cooperation, Singapore’s political history and other issues of mutual interest.
The Singaporean representative expressed interest in using modern technology and providing technical assistance for strengthening Bangladesh’s border and immigration security.
He said bilateral relations and trade between Bangladesh and Singapore are expanding continuously. He also expressed hope that a full-fledged high commissioner to Bangladesh would be appointed soon to further strengthen trade and bilateral ties.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed highlighted Bangladesh’s longstanding diplomatic and economic relations with Singapore.
He said the government is working to establish state-of-the-art technology-based immigration and border security systems at Bangladesh’s borders and airports.
The minister also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would be further strengthened through joint efforts to combat extremism, police training and technology transfer.
The meeting was also attended by newly appointed Charge d’Affaires Philip Wong, who will succeed Mitchell Lee, Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry’s Political and Immigration Division Dr Ziauddin Ahmed, and Second Secretary of the Singapore mission Dhanya Lingesh, among others.
