Police have arrested three suspects following a violent late-night attack on content creator Salman Mohammad Muqtadir’s "BrownFish" studio and the surrounding housing project in Dhaka’s ECB Chattar area. While a clear motive is yet to be confirmed the investigators suspect the incident stems from a land possession dispute.
The attack occurred around 10:30 pm on Saturday at the New Gini Properties project in South Manikdi. An armed mob broke through the gates, fired gunshots, vandalized office installations, and looted cash, electronics and client equipment. Two studio employees hiding inside were robbed at gunpoint.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Md Mahidul Islam identified the three arrested individuals as Mamun, Aslam, and Munna. Two were apprehended at the scene while the third was detained during a late-night raid.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan Director of New Gini Properties alleged that 250 to 300 armed miscreants fired 40 to 50 rounds, assaulted staff and looted assets valued at approximately Tk.10 million. He claimed the company had been facing ongoing extortion threats and illegal land grabs.
However, DMP Joint Commissioner Mahidul stated that police have found no evidence linking the attack to extortion demands so far. He emphasized that early findings point to a conflict over land ownership, though questioning of the suspects remains ongoing.
Arriving at the site Salman Muqtadir confirmed that materials belonging to 30 to 40 clients were stored at the studio, resulting in significant financial losses. He concurred that the raid targeted the housing development rather than his business directly. Legal proceedings and operations to arrest the remaining perpetrators are underway.
