A 17-member Climate Action Forum has been formed at the upazila level in Paikgacha, Khulna, to represent the voices, needs and priorities of communities affected by climate change in local policy, planning and decision-making.
A meeting to form the forum was held at the office of non-governmental development organisation LEADERS on Saturday afternoon, September 26.
Lecturer Lutfa Islam was elected president of the forum, while Ilias Hossain was named general secretary.
Other office-bearers include Prabhat Debnath as vice-president, Bhavani Sana as joint general secretary, Sharifa Urmi as publicity secretary, Himadri Dhali as organising secretary and Abul Kalam Azad as treasurer.
The meeting began with a welcome speech by Sharmin Ara Lina, project coordinator of LEADERS.
Among those present were journalists Md Abdul Aziz and Snehendu Bikash, along with LEADERS Project Officer Ismat Ara Khatun, SM Afzal Hossain, FM Nasrin Akter, Alamgir Hossain and Russell.
The forum aims to ensure that the concerns and priorities of climate-affected communities are reflected in local policies, development plans and decision-making processes.
