A stoppage-time header from substitute forward Rayan spared Brazil a shock defeat as Carlo Ancelotti’s side fought back to draw 1-1 against Australia in an international friendly on Friday.
Playing before a sold-out crowd in Queensland the Australia came close to securing their first victory over the five-time world champions in 25 years.
After a goalless first half where Brazil had an Estevao goal disallowed by VAR for a foul in the buildup, Australia broke the deadlock in the 68th minute. Twenty-year-old winger Nestory Irankunda curled a brilliant free kick past Brazilian goalkeeper Hugo Souza to give the hosts a lead.
Australia defended stubbornly as Brazil pushed for an equalizer. However, deep into added time in the 95th minute Rayan connected with Raphinha's corner kick, heading the ball into the bottom-left corner to deny Australia a historic win.
The two sides will face each other again in a second friendly on Tuesday after Brazil will travel to India for their next match on October 3.
