Rescue workers recovered the floating bodies of three young siblings on Saturday morning, two days after a wedding-bound trawler capsized during a storm in the Meghna River in Sonargaon.
The children’s father Helal Uddin remains missing as search and rescue operations continue.
Fire Service divers and River Police personnel retrieved the bodies of Sajib, Samia and Samin near the Boiddar Bazar Ghat area in Sonargaon according to Abdullah Al Arefin the Deputy Director of Narayanganj Fire Service.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a engine-driven trawler carrying 13 passengers along with livestock was traveling from Srimandi in Cumilla to a wedding in Mayamoy village, Sonargaon. The vessel was caught in a sudden storm in the middle of the river and sank.
While eight passengers managed to swim ashore, one woman identified as Rashida was rescued in critical condition and later declared dead at a local hospital. Helal Uddin and his three children were reported missing immediately following the accident.
Rescue teams are continuing to scan the Meghna River to locate the missing father.
