A powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of New Caledonia's Loyalty Islands on Saturday but authorities reported no immediate casualties or major structural damage.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor occurred at 8:23 AM local time at a depth of 17.1 kilometers. The epicenter was located approximately 68 kilometers (42 miles) east-northeast of Tadine.
The US National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that no tsunami warnings advisories or threats were issued following the offshore earthquake. Local authorities reported that the situation remains safe across the region.
