The Faridpur district, metropolitan and Kotwali units of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) held a protest rally and demonstration in Faridpur on Saturday against activities of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.
The programme was held as part of a nationwide protest organised against various activities of the Awami League.
The demonstration and rally took place in Faridpur city on Saturday afternoon (September 26). District JASAS Convener Advocate Syed Rashedul Alam Tuhin presided over the rally, while Metropolitan JASAS President Shaheen Haque and District JASAS Senior Joint Convener Shahidul Islam Liton addressed the gathering.
District JASAS Member Secretary Arif Baku, Joint Conveners Masud Rana and Masum Dewan, Metropolitan JASAS Senior Joint Convener Kazi Robin, Metropolitan BNP member Qayum Mia, Naimul Hasan Naim and leaders and activists from different levels were present.
Speakers criticised various activities of the Awami League, referring to it as a banned organisation. They called on their leaders and activists to remain united against any activities by the party.
They said they would strongly resist any activities of the banned Awami League and urged everyone to remain united in this regard.
The speakers also called on people to work together under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for national development and other development activities.
Before the rally, a procession began in front of the Maachranga Shopping Complex in the city and ended at Janata Bank intersection, where the protest rally was held.
Leaders and activists of the district, metropolitan and Kotwali thana JASAS units participated in the programme.
Bangladesh’s ban on Awami League activities remains in force; a High Court petition challenging the legality of the ban was dismissed earlier this month.
