A cleanliness campaign was held in Kalia, Narail, on Saturday to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases under the theme, “Keep the surroundings clean, prevent dengue.”
The campaign was organised by the Kalia Upazila administration, various unions and the municipality, along with Kalia Upazila and municipal BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations.
Narail-1 MP Biswas Jahangir Alam attended the programme as the chief guest and took part in the cleanliness drive at the Model Mosque premises.
Among those participating were Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Jinnatul Islam, Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Idris Ali, Kalia Upazila BNP General Secretary SM Wahiduzzaman Milu, municipal BNP President Md Sheikh Selim, Acting General Secretary Sheikh Shihab Uddin, Senior Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rabbi Kamal, Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Sardar Armstrong, and leaders and activists of municipal BNP and its affiliated organisations. People from different professions also joined the campaign.
During the drive, participants focused on removing stagnant water from various locations, keeping the surrounding environment clean and raising public awareness about dengue prevention.
MP Biswas Jahangir Alam said active participation by local residents, alongside government initiatives, is necessary to prevent dengue.
He urged people to ensure that water does not accumulate around homes, educational institutions and other areas. He also called for regular cleaning to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and for collective efforts to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
The campaign was held as part of a broader three-month nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness programme launched in September.
