A tree-planting programme has been launched in Lohagara, Narail, on the personal initiative of Sheikh Humayun Kabir, president of the Labour Party’s No. 4 Noagram Union unit.
The programme was inaugurated at around 11am on Saturday (September 26) at the Brahmandanga Sammilita Karigori Dakhil Madrasa premises in Noagram Union of the upazila. Fruit, forest and medicinal saplings were planted on the madrasa grounds.
Saplings of various types of trees were also planted at the Brahmandanga Government Primary School premises, Char Brahmandanga Cemetery, Handla Government Primary School premises and Baribhanga Cemetery.
Among those present were Lohagara Upazila Labour Party convener Md Aktar Hossain Molla; Md Aminur Rahman Prince, president of the madrasa governing committee and a prominent sports organiser; madrasa superintendent Md Mizanur Rahman; Noagram Union BNP president and former Union Parishad member Md Khairul Islam; Lohagara Municipality Ward No. 8 BNP general secretary Md Hiru Molla; social worker and BNP leader Md Nazir Molla; former Union Parishad member Md Zakir Hossain; social worker Kaiyum Molla; and social worker Md Abul Sheikh, among others.
Sheikh Humayun Kabir, organiser of the tree-planting programme and a Labour Party leader, said that as part of a five-year initiative announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to plant 250 million trees, he plans to personally plant 50,000 fruit, forest and medicinal saplings in different educational and religious institutions, as well as along roads and highways, across Noagram Union in Lohagara.
He sought everyone’s cooperation to make the tree-planting programme successful. He also told journalists present that he would actively participate in development activities for the residents of the union.
