Three more people have died with suspected measles symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours with bringing the total death toll linked to the disease to 1,084 since March 15.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin issued Friday the 64 new cases were officially confirmed during this period. Out of 1,201 patients seeking hospital care with symptoms 1,095 were admitted across the country. Most victims of the outbreak have been children.
Dhaka Division reported the highest hospital admissions at 350 followed by Chattogram (266), Sylhet (162), Khulna (105), Barishal (100), Mymensingh (56), Rajshahi (43) and Rangpur (13).
Official figures show 101 people have died from laboratory-confirmed measles, while 983 died after developing suspected symptoms. Regionally, Dhaka Division recorded the highest fatal cases at 443 followed by Sylhet with 173, Rajshahi with 93, Mymensingh and Chattogram with 78 each, Barishal with 60, Khulna with 43 and Rangpur with 15.
Since mid-March 185,833 individuals have displayed symptoms with 21,015 confirmed cases. Overall hospitalizations have reached 164,248 of which 157,807 patients have recovered and been discharged.
Health officials note that limited testing capacity across facilities means the total number of actual cases remains underreported.
