Two more dengue patients have died in Dhaka’s city corporations over the last 24 hours with taking the country’s total toll to 211 this year according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest update shows September has become the deadliest month of 2026, recording 115 fatalities in its first 25 days.
A total of 955 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours on Friday. Of the new cases, Dhaka North recorded 76 admissions and Dhaka South 113. Outside the capital, Dhaka Division reported 241 admissions, Chattogram 246, Khulna 130, Barishal 44, Rangpur 44, Mymensingh 37 and Sylhet 4.
During the same period 953 patients were discharged. So far this year hospitalizations have reached 70,104 while 64,827 patients have recovered and left hospitals.
In a separate update, the DGHS reported three additional measles-related deaths in the same 24-hour period. Health officials continue to monitor seasonal infectious disease cases across districts to manage hospital capacity.
Dengue outbreaks remain a major public health challenge in Bangladesh. Last year over 400 people died from the mosquito-borne viral infection while 2023 saw a record 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalizations.
