Oscar winner Susan Sarandon and Hacks star Hannah Einbinder were among over 100 protesters arrested outside the United Nations General Assembly in New York where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to speak.
Organized by Jewish Voice for Peace with hundreds blocked city intersections holding banners that read "Stop Arming Israel" and "End the Genocide."
NYPD officers moved in after demonstrators defied dispersal orders also detaining high-profile activists including Democratic candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier and NYC Council Member Chi Ossé.
"The cost of not speaking is higher" Einbinder stated on Instagram following her release also urging attention toward the devastation in Gaza and the West Bank. Sarandon who was dropped by her talent agency in late 2023 over her pro-Palestine advocacy, previously noted losing film roles due to her stance against Israel's military actions.
Inside the assembly, 77 global delegations walked out in protest as Netanyahu took the stage. His speech defended Israel's offensive in Gaza which local health authorities report has killed over 73,000 Palestinians and dismissed international genocide accusations while criticizing world leaders who turned their backs.
The NYPD confirmed all 103 detained individuals were cited for disorderly conduct and later released.
