Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has directed police to take firm action against supporters of the former administration if they attempt to destabilize the country.
Speaking at a police medal ceremony on Saturday, the minister instructed officers across all ranks to perform their duties independently, professionally and strictly according to the law.
Referring to supporters of the previous Awami League government, Salahuddin urged police to suppress any attempts to disrupt public order. He alleged that state institutions including the police force were previously misused by the "fallen fascist regime" and turned against the public.
The minister revealed that the government possesses intelligence regarding individuals secretly assisting these forces or leaking information.
"We are giving you a very gentle opportunity to correct yourselves," Salahuddin warned. "No matter what position a police officer holds, if they fail to meet expectations, the consequences will not be good."
Emphasizing the need for institutional reform, the Home Minister urged the force to transition toward service-oriented policing. He stressed that citizens no longer tolerate officers acting like rulers also calling instead for a transparent, people-friendly police force dedicated to public safety.
