Bangladesh has strongly rejected Indian media reports alleging that Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is plotting attacks on India using Bangladeshi soil.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain dismissed the claims, stating that "no sensible person can believe this." He suggested that the Indian media tends to "put blame on us for whatever incidents," and there is "no reason to believe" the current allegation. The Indian media reports, including those from the Times of India, referred to an unverified video in which alleged LeT commander Saifullah Saif claimed that LeT founder Hafiz Saeed is actively planning attacks on India through Bangladesh. The denial comes amid a volatile regional security environment, highlighted by two recent major attacks: An explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi, India, on Monday evening, which killed at least eight people. The cause remains officially unconfirmed, but Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to bring the "conspirators" to justice.
A deadly suicide bombing in Islamabad, Pakistan, outside district court buildings, which claimed 12 lives. The terror group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Following the Islamabad bombing, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif characterized the incident as "India's state-sponsored terrorism."
Bangladesh's Foreign Adviser's statement is a clear move to distance the country from any purported cross-border terror plots mentioned in the Indian media.
