A fragile truce between the US and Iran is under severe strain following a massive escalation of military strikes in the Middle East.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a joint missile and drone operation targeting 85 US military sites. Key targets reportedly included Bandar Salman, Bahrain’s Fifth Naval District and the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The IRGC also claimed to have shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone. While sirens sounded across Bahrain and Kuwait, prompting air defenses to engage, there are currently no confirmed reports of casualties or damage.
In response, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it struck over 80 targets inside Iran. The operation targeted Iranian air defense systems, command networks, radar sites and over 60 IRGC small boats near the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM stated the strikes were retaliation for recent Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels, calling Tehran's actions a dangerous violation of the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf accused the US of violating a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ending the four-month-old conflict. Iran's top military command has vowed a "crushing response" asserting that Tehran will maintain control over shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
