Two Brothers Killed by Lightning While Farming in Morelganj

Two brothers were killed by a lightning strike while working in an agricultural field in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around noon on September 2 in a field behind the Mahishpura Police Camp, according to police.

Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahidullah confirmed the deaths.

The deceased were identified as Bidhan Bachhar, 55, and Manik Bachhar, 40, sons of Moniranjan Bachhar of Shaulkhali village. They were brothers.

Lightning Strike Kills Brothers on the Spot

Morelগঞ্জ Upazila BNP General Secretary Md Mehedi Hasan Yad said the two brothers were working in the field when lightning suddenly struck them.

They died at the scene, he said.

The deaths have cast a shadow of grief over the local community.

Mehedi Hasan Yad expressed deep sorrow and condolences on behalf of the upazila BNP, saying the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would stand beside the families of the deceased.

He also said the local BNP would support the families if they receive government assistance in the future.

Administration Takes Steps to Assist Families

Morelganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibullah said the district administration was informed after receiving news of the deaths and a representative was sent to the scene.

He added that initial arrangements were being made to provide financial assistance to the bereaved families.
