Gold prices have increased again in Bangladesh after three consecutive rounds of cuts, with the price of 22-carat gold jewellery rising by Tk 5,482 per bhori.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) said the new price came into effect at 10am on Thursday, September 3.
Under the latest adjustment, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery has been set at Tk 237,362 per bhori, including VAT.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring. The association later issued a notice signed by committee chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen.
According to the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold jewellery has increased by Tk 5,249 to Tk 226,690 per bhori, including VAT.
The price of 18-carat gold jewellery has risen by Tk 4,491 to Tk 194,614 per bhori.
Meanwhile, the price of gold jewellery under the traditional method has increased by Tk 3,674 to Tk 158,980 per bhori.
BAJUS said the latest increase was driven by a rise in the price of Tejabi gold in the local market.
The latest increase follows three consecutive price cuts on August 29, August 31 and September 2. During those three rounds, the price of 22-carat gold fell by a combined Tk 15,863 per bhori.
Before that, gold prices had risen three times on August 20, August 22 and August 25, with the price of 22-carat gold increasing by a total of Tk 10,964 per bhori.
Most recently, on September 2, BAJUS reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374, bringing it down to Tk 231,880 per bhori. That price remained in effect until 9:59am Thursday.
Alongside gold, BAJUS has also raised the prices of silver jewellery.
The price of 22-carat silver has increased by Tk 116 to Tk 5,132 per bhori, including VAT.
The price of 21-carat silver has risen by Tk 175 to Tk 4,957 per bhori, while 18-carat silver has increased by Tk 175 to Tk 4,257 per bhori.
The price of silver jewellery under the traditional method has also gone up by Tk 117 to Tk 3,208 per bhori.
