A court has issued a status quo order to keep the Betangi River, Gaysa Canal and Poda River in Lata Union, Paikgachha, Khulna open for public use.

The order follows a civil suit (Case No. 59/26) filed by Abu Musa Sardar, former general secretary of Lata Union BNP at the Paikgachha Civil Judge Court. The suit names the Deputy Commissioner as defendant and seeks to permanently keep the three waterbodies accessible to the public.

On April 2, 2026 the court issued a 15-day show-cause notice on the defendant after the plaintiff sought a temporary injunction. As the Deputy Commissioner's office did not respond or raise any objection within the given period, the court issued a status quo order on August 19, 2026 maintaining the current condition of the river, canal and river until further ruling.

The case remains pending with the status quo order preventing any change to public access in the meantime.
