The American rapper, Snoop Dogg (real name Calvin Broadus Jr.), has been named an 'honorary coach' for Team USA ahead of the Winter Olympics set to take place in Milan and Cortina, Italy, from February 6-22 next year.
The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) announced on Thursday that the 54-year-old will serve in a "volunteer role celebrating and supporting America's athletes off the field of play." USOPC stated that Snoop Dogg "will lend his signature humour and heart" to help motivate and inspire the athletes.
Snoop Dogg previously served as a special correspondent for NBC's Olympics coverage during the Summer Games in Paris last year and performed at the handover ceremony for Los Angeles 2028.
'Coach Snoop' said: "Team USA athletes are the real stars - I'm just here to cheer, uplift and maybe drop a little wisdom from the sidelines." USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland praised the hip-hop star, stating his "enthusiasm for the Olympic and Paralympic movement is contagious."
Snoop Dogg is also a known sports enthusiast, having founded the Snoop Youth Football League in 2005 to provide inner-city children opportunities to play American football.
